Horse and Ranch

The Horse and Ranch activities offered by Waddington Enterprises are provided in cooperation with the Sand Creek Ranch. The Sand Creek Ranch is an authentic cattle ranch that offers an incredible opportunity to ride accomplished working cow horses. These horses are born and raised on the ranch, and are bred to be the ultimate mountain horse. On these horses you will develop an acute sense of connection and communication. All of the horse and ranch activities include a horsemanship clinic led by trainer Walt Foster to ensure the best possible experience between horse and rider. Following this training you will be free to explore grassland, valley and alpine regions of the West Chilcotin.

Walt Foster Jr. Horse Trainer and Owner/Operator of Sand Creek Ranch.

Walt’s professional experience with horses spans a period of thirty-two years of teaching horse handling and riding instruction. Walt and Carol Foster have been raising registered quarter horses since 1980, and have been members of the American Quarter Horse Association for twenty-six years. He has served as the Horse Program Director for a multi-faceted training program enrolling in excess of one hundred students annually. The program encompassed beginning to advanced riders; and although Walt has directed both Western and English instructors his personal expertise is with Western riding and horsemanship. He has trained arena and performance horses for show: however, his focus has evolved to horsemanship as it pertains to wilderness riding.

Our guests will receive a training session from Walt as a prerequisite for all horse-related activities. This training and instruction focuses on riding skills and caring for working ranch horses. For the Range Patrol option the training clinic includes handling and working with cattle. Our horse program emphasizes safety and awareness. Proper training ensures an enjoyable experience for beginners and experienced riders alike.
